Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier filed for divorce from his wife Michelle on Wednesday, nearly two months after she publicly accused him of cheating. Details on why Shazier pulled the trigger on the divorce are still unknown since the court has ordered the case to be sealed, according to TMZ .
In November, Michelle Shazier exposed the two time Pro Bowl linebacker’s alleged text messages he had sent to another woman named Marie, accusing Shazier of being “a liar and a cheater.” “A person that loves his family … this is what they do to their family … the WIFE.. that has been there for him since day 1,” she wrote in the caption of her now deleted post.
“Infidelity at its finest! I can’t sit here and keep hiding anymore. You can have it. I deserve better. This is Ryan… he’s a liar and a cheater!” One message allegedly showed the person, whom Michelle Shazier claimed was her husband, sending books to another woman that included guides on how to perform sexual acts, TMZ reported at the time.
Shazier and Michelle Shazier had been together for seven years and were married in 2019 before they seemingly called it quits. “Michelle and I have been living apart and are currently separated,” Ryan Shazier told TMZ shortly after the gossip site broke the juice details on his alleged affair. “As we work through what comes next for our family, I ask for privacy and prayers.” It’s unclear when they split.
The couple share a 4 year old son, Lyon while Ryan Shazier has a 9 year old son, RJ, from a previous relationship. The Steelers selected Ryan Shazier as the 15th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Ryan and Michelle Shazier, a real estate agent in Pittsburgh, tied the knot in 2019, nearly two years after the former NFL star suffered a frightening on field spinal injury that left him temporarily paralyzed.
During a Monday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Dec. 4, 2017 , Ryan Shazier lowered his head to tackle wide receiver Josh Malone in the first quarter. Following the impact, he collapsed to the ground and grabbed the small of his back, appearing completely motionless from the waist down.
He was quickly carted off the field by the team’s medical staff and underwent spine stabilization surgery on Dec. 6 of that year. He announced his retirement from the NFL on Sept. 9, 2020..
