Microwaves are responsible for nearly four percent of cooking related house fires annually, according to the National Fire Protection Association in the United States (U.S.) — and these incidents account for one percent of all fire related deaths. At the same time, other appliances are responsible for 62 percent of cooking fires, leading to a staggering 89 percent of deaths, the reported.
Now, one such startup–Chef AI, is venturing on a journey to develop a first of its kind artificial intelligence driven automatic air fryer. 'One of a kind' AI driven air fryer Dean Khormaei, the CEO and co founder of Chef AI, says that this device does not require the user to put the timer or temperature needed to cook the food, "taking the guesswork out of cooking." The AI chip based on the venture's deep learning model has the ability to predict exactly how long a particular food item will take to cook.
The sensors in the system automatically stop the air fryer once the cooking is finished. This is a one of a kind model, Khormaei emphasized. Alluding to competitors, he said that other companies attach thermometers to such devices. However, this does not. "We have rebuilt training models that have already collected and aggregated data to precisely understand how food of certain sizes and shapes behaves." He added that no other covenant in their research has been able to figure out the exact thickness, area, or weight of the food.
"These are crucial aspects of this cooking appliance that no one has implemented yet," Khormaei noted. Watch how it works below: The startup, based in Mountain View, California, is expected to launch in September 2024. They exhibited the AI based air fryer for the first time at the 2024 Consumers Electronics Show ( ) in Las Vegas last week.
Eliminating guesswork in cooking The technology aims to eradicate the guesswork in cooking by preventing overcooking or undercooking. Furthermore, it delivers a non intrusive method for automatic air frying to consumers. The CEO was inspired by his personal experiences of burning food after forgetting about it in the conventional air fryer and realized the need for a better solution.
This led to the fruition of such an appliance. While the venture plans to bring the technology to the market later this year, starting in the US, its ultimate goal is to expand to other regions. Chef AI plans to integrate the technology into various kitchen devices like microwaves and ovens, the co founder stated.
"Users will be able to customize cooking preferences through a feedback system when needed." The air fryer is accompanied by an application that allows consumers to change setting preferences for specific levels of crispiness or other desired markers designed to cater to personal tastes. "This feedback can be used to improve future cooking processes," said Khormaei.
Furthermore, Khormaei says that the system is designed to be robust, and reliability tests are still underway to ensure it surpasses industry standards, adding that sustainability is a focus in making the product reliable and long lasting..
