The new Fluted Armor figma from 'Demon's Souls'. Back in 2009, the original Demon’s Souls changed the landscape of gaming. The recent remake only cemented that fact further. So it’s great that we finally have a nice figure of the signature armor . Featured not only on the game’s original cover but also in the opening , the Fluted Armor was the starting set for the Knight class .
That should be not at all surprising, as the Fluted Armor aimed to evoke an almost quintessential depiction of a European knight’s armor. Brandishing the iconic Kite Shield and Broadsword , the armor was introduced as a fallen soldier slumped against a wall on the game’s Japanese cover. This figma release not only comes with those accessories and a wide array of articulation to recreate the same pose (shown above) but all manner of extras on top of that.
From the Knight Sword , Dark Silver Shield , Meat Cleaver , Iron Knuckle and the FromSoftware staple, the Large Sword of Moonlight . Of these weapons, the two that stand out here are the Dark Silver Shield and the Large Sword of Moonlight. The former is a very detailed piece in the game and is nicely recreated here and the latter maintains the same translucence as the original (although obviously minus the swirling particle effects).
This figma of the Fluted Armor is also from the recent remake, hence the increased complexity of the detailing and paintwork. The Large Sword of Moonlight is also included with this figma release. You also get sheathed versions of both the Broadsword and Knight Sword, which can be stowed on the back.
While the player pretty well much concocts their own loadouts in the game, that means the Fluted Armor set isn’t necessarily all worn as one piece. However, one of the non playable character sports the whole armor set though, that of the Ostrava , the Prince of Boletaria. As for how this stacks up against other figmas and S.H.Figuarts releases at the same scale, it’s very impressive actually.
Compared to older figma releases, this Fluted Armor figure is quite the generational leap in terms of quality. The detailing, sculpt and paintwork are far more sophisticated and intricate. The articulation is also a noticeable step up, as it can hold a surprising array of poses. If you were a fan of the recent Demon’s Souls remake, which I also greatly enjoyed , then this figma comes highly recommended.
Not least because the figure embodies the literal origins of the Souls series, which makes for a worthy display piece for any discerning gamer. You can pick up this Fluted Armor figma from Amazon for around $178. The Demon’s Souls remake is also readily available on the PlayStation 5.
