Earlier this week, Enid police began canvassing the neighborhood after a string of copper thefts left several homes and businesses without power. The culprits—who remain unidentified—apparently stripped copper wiring from basements, utility boxes, and even streetlights, leaving a mess that’s both dangerous and expensive to fix.

"We’re dealing with a pattern that’s been escalating over the past few months," said Officer Jamie Reynolds, the detective heading the case. "The thefts are not only a nuisance; they pose serious safety hazards. Exposed wires can shock anyone who comes into contact with them, and the loss of power affects everyone in the area."

According to the police report, the thieves seem to strike at night, using tools to cut through metal quickly before disappearing into the darkness. Investigators have recovered a few scrap pieces of copper, but nothing that directly points to a suspect.
