A Disneyland cast member dressed as Eeyore stayed in character and sought to calm patrons at the Tokyo theme park as it was rocked by a powerful earthquake that struck Japan this week. Video that emerged on social media shows frightened visitors to the park crouching down as a speaker warns of visitors about the impending natural disaster on the public address system.
“Prepare for a strong earthquake,” park visitors are told. However, the cast member in the Eeyore costume kept his cool, bobbing his donkey head up and down and gesturing with his hands as if to indicate that things were going to be okay. The clip of the beloved Winnie the Pooh character, uploaded to Instagram on Tuesday, has generated more than 14 million views and 655,000 likes as of Thursday.
It was filmed by Jason Hill, who was visiting the park Monday — when the 7.6 magnitude quake struck Japan’s western coastline. A post shared by Jason Hill (@jasnhill) At least 84 people were killed and scores remain missing as rescuers continued to look for survivors Thursday. Ishikawa prefecture and nearby areas were shaken by more aftershocks, adding to the dozens that followed the temblor centered near Noto, about 185 miles from Tokyo on the opposite coast.
The quake set off tsunami warnings, followed by waves measuring more than 3 feet in some places..
