He works as a jagrata (religious) singer, which is not seen as a fruitful career. Living in a mortgaged haveli (mansion) with his father, Jagjeet Singh (Annu Kapoor), Karam’s life is anything but ordinary.
His role as a gender shifting jagrata performer introduces the audience to a world where nothing is as it seems. Karam’s love life takes a complicated turn when he meets Pari and her father, Jaipal Srivastav (Manoj Joshi). Jaipal places conditions on their union, setting the stage for the film’s central conflict.
Srivastav asks Karam to land a high paying job, a stable bank balance, and buy a house of his own within six months in order to marry Pari. In an effort to improve his financial situation and win over Pari’s father, Karam embarks on a wild journey. He adopts the persona of ‘Pooja,’ dressing as a woman and taking up a job as a dancer in a nightclub owned by Saajan Tiwari, aka Sona Bhai (Vijay Raaz).
His life becomes even more tangled when he also works as a psychiatrist at a wealthy Muslim house owned by Abu Saleem (Paresh Rawal), all while maintaining his disguise as Pooja. Dream Girl 2: What happened in the end? Soon, matters escalate when Karam, as Pooja, inadvertently charms Shah Rukh, the son of Abu (Paresh Rawal), a wealthy man.
Abu, delighted by Pooja’s influence on his son, decides that Pooja should marry Shah Rukh. Yusuf Ali Salim Khan, Shah Rukh’s wheelchair bound grandfather, offers a heavy dowry for this union. Seeing a chance to solve his financial troubles, Karam agrees to the marriage, planning to abscond later.
However, complications continue to mount. Karam, unable to continue his job as a nightclub dancer, faces pressure from Sona Bhai, the nightclub owner, who expresses his desire to marry Pooja. Abu’s adopted son, Shaukya, also falls for Pooja, adding to the chaos. Meanwhile, a misunderstanding arises when Abu believes Karam to be Pooja’s brother.
This leads to a comical situation involving Abu’s sister, Jumani, who is attracted to Karam. In a desperate attempt to have a grandchild, Abu takes Pooja to Baby Baba, a spiritual guru. During a ritual at the Ganges river, Karam seizes the opportunity to escape, leading everyone to believe that Pooja has tragically drowned.
A memorial service is held, marking the end of Pooja’s journey. Was Karam able to fulfill Jaipal’s demands? The climax of the film is quite dramatic. Karam gets to know from Smiley that Pari is getting married to another man after thinking Karam cheated on her. Karam, still in his Pooja persona, rushes to the wedding and performs a dance expressing his feelings.
This act leads Pari to realize the truth about Karam’s love and the lengths he has gone to for her. Karam openly confronts Pari’s father, Jaipal, about his classist attitude. Eventually, Jaipal realizes his mistake, and the film concludes with Karam and Pari getting married in a grand ceremony. Dream Girl 2 thus culminates as a story about love, acceptance, and the lengths one goes to for both, wrapped in a comedic package that echoes the spirit of its predecessor.
