Douglas County sheriff investigating fatal shooting in Highlands Ranch

One person is dead after a fatal shooting in Highlands Ranch on Sunday morning. A suspect was taken into custody shortly after Douglas County sheriff’s deputies arrived on a call about shots being fired in connection with a possible family disturbance, according to a news relaase from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office on X.

The suspect has not been identified. The shooting happened around 10:24 a.m. in the 800 block of Elmhurst Drive in Highlands Ranch, the news release said. The Douglas County coroner will release the dead person’s identity. Deputy Cocha Heyden said no further information would be released until more steps had been taken in the investigation.
