DK Shivakumar Accuses ED of Political Targeting in Congress MLA Satish Sail's Arrest

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has launched a scathing attack on the Enforcement Directorate (ED), accusing the central agency of engaging in political vendetta following the arrest of Congress MLA Satish Sail. Shivakumar's strong condemnation came amidst a growing chorus of criticism from the Congress party, which views the ED's actions as a deliberate attempt to target opposition leaders.

Addressing reporters, Shivakumar unequivocally stated, "The ED's action against Satish Sail is nothing but political targeting.

This is a clear misuse of central agencies by the ruling party to intimidate and silence their political opponents." He emphasized that such actions undermine the democratic process and tarnish the credibility of independent institutions.

Satish Sail, a prominent Congress MLA from Karnataka, was arrested by the ED in connection with an alleged money laundering case.

However, Shivakumar and other Congress leaders assert that the timing and nature of the arrest are suspicious and indicative of a politically motivated move, especially given the upcoming political landscape.

Shivakumar further elaborated on his concerns, questioning why similar scrutiny is not applied to leaders from the ruling party.

"Where is the ED's action against those close to the ruling party, despite serious allegations? This selective approach exposes the true agenda behind these arrests," he challenged, implying a double standard in the agency's operations.

The Deputy CM also highlighted the pattern of central agencies intensifying their actions against opposition leaders, particularly in states where the opposition holds power or where elections are on the horizon.

"This has become a common tactic to destabilize state governments and create an atmosphere of fear among political leaders who stand against the ruling dispensation," he added, reinforcing the party's narrative of being unfairly targeted.

The Congress party in Karnataka has vowed to stand firmly with Satish Sail and has indicated that it will explore all legal and political avenues to challenge what they perceive as an unjust arrest.

This incident is expected to further escalate tensions between the state government and the central agencies, with the Congress likely to use it as a rallying point against the BJP-led central government.

As the political slugfest intensifies, the ED is yet to officially respond to Shivakumar's accusations, but the agency typically maintains that its actions are based on evidence and are carried out independently, without any political interference.
