Derrick Henry says goodbye to Tennessee after possible last game with Titans

The Tennessee Titans’ season ended Sunday and with it, likely Derrick Henry’s career with the team that drafted him in 2016. Henry, who turned 30 on Thursday, spoke to the Tennessee crowd from the field following a 28 20 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. He’s set to become a free agent and the expectation is that he’ll land elsewhere in the offseason.

“Titans fans, thank you for the greatest eight years of my life,’’ Henry said. “The ups and downs, [you’ve] been there through everything. Through the adversity, watching me grow as a person and a player, always supporting me. “I love y’all. I love seeing the 22s in the stadium. Hopefully I was an inspiration to all the young kids and everybody in the community.

Just, thank y’all so much. God is good, and Titan up, baby.” The running back also rushed for 100 yards for the 41st time in his career to set a franchise record, surpassing the mark set by Earl Campbell, who did it as a Houston Oiler. Henry is also second in franchise history in rushing yards, trailing only Eddie George.

Known for his physical play, Henry could be replaced by Tyjae Spears and addressed the possibility Sunday might be his last as a Titan during the week. “But there’s a business side and all those types of things that go on, and I understand that. We’ll just see how it shakes out during the offseason.” Even with a vintage performance against Jacksonville in which Henry rushed for 153 yards on 19 carries, he finished with his lowest yards per carry of his career (4.2), but he scored 12 touchdowns for a disappointing Tennesee team that finished 6 11..
