Brian Baldinger rips Eagles’ Jordan Davis for being ‘overweight’ and ‘out of shape’

Brian Baldinger made it clear that Eagles defensive tackle Jordan Davis’ New Year’s resolution should be to shed a few pounds. “Jordan Davis is out of shape,” Baldinger said Tuesday on the PHLY Philadelphia Eagles podcast . “I don’t know what they fine him every week, but I gotta believe he’s getting money taken from him, he’s overweight and it shows.” As the Eagles have gone from a 10 1 juggernaut to a vulnerable 11 5 squad that likely won’t win the division, Philadelphia’s defense has come under scrutiny.

The defense allowed the Seahawks’ Drew Lock to deliver a game winning drive on “Monday Night Football” in Week 15, and could not stop Kyler Murray and the Cardinals’ run game in a devastating Week 16 home loss that likely will make them the NFC’s No. 5 seed. Philadelphia’s secondary has been much scrutinized during this rut, but Baldinger, who is known for his game breakdowns, believes Davis deserves his fair share of the blame.

Davis, selected 13th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, has 2.5 sacks, 16 solo tackles and one forced fumble in his second season. “He’s not pursuing the football, he’s nothing in the pass rush, so that’s one. If he’s going to play with that effort and be overweight like that, then you say, ‘OK, they’re a man short in the rotation,’” said Baldinger, who works for NFL Network.

“Fletcher (Cox)’s playing too much … because (Davis is) not effective inside, they need another guy inside in their defensive tackle rotation. “I’m not sure why he keeps dressing, he’s been ineffective. When the plays are going on, he’s basically walking on the field. It’s bad effort.” The Eagles have already changed their defensive coordinator, shifting the duties from Sean Desai to Matt Patricia, but that has not sparked the unit.

Philadelphia now no longer controls its own destiny heading into its Week 18 road game against the Giants since the Cowboys can win the division with a road win against the hapless Commanders..
