FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — For Breece Hall, there is no business like snow business. “When I was young, when I lived in Omaha, [Nebraska],” Hall said after carrying the Jets to a 17 3 win over Bill Belichick and the Patriots, “I was playing in a tournament, and me and my mom when we were on the way to the game, we saw a car slide into a light pole and it was the craziest thing.
We ended up beating the team so bad they just forfeited at halftime. I played in my fair share of snow before.” Hall, 15 months after tearing his ACL, ran 37 times for 178 yards with a game sealing, 50 yard touchdown and caught two passes for 12 yards. Aware of the adversity he had to overcome, remembering how to be an elite back, the Jets gave him one last handoff before time expired rather than kneel in an effort to get him to 1,000 yards.
He finished with 994. “I really wasn’t upset ’cause everybody in the league that watched me knows that I have the potential to be probably the best back in the NFL, if not I’m top two, top three,” Hall said. “I did everything I could just coming off an ACL and still having the coaches believe in me and stuff, so it was a good season.” His teammates were more upset for Hall not reaching 1,000 yards than he was.
“That makes me sick to my stomach,” Tyler Conklin said. “But he’s gonna have plenty of 1,000 yard seasons in his career so kinda sick he didn’t get it today, but obviously a special player. I just kept telling him, ‘Hey I know you can move better than they can move in this snow. So go win the game for us.’ ” So he did.
“I told him, ‘Don’t talk to me after the game or I don’t want to hear any tweets if you don’t have over 150 yards,’ ” C.J. Mosley said. “We needed that from him for us to win that game.” Hall looked outside in the morning and saw the flakes flying and knew what was coming. He was coming.
“All right, I’m gonna run the ball a lot today,” Hall said. He and his teammates were doing snow angels in the end zone following his touchdown. “We knew we could get outside and Nick Bawden got a great block on the corner and pancaked him, and then once I saw the lane I knew I was gonna score,” Hall said.
“And the celebration, we said as soon as we score we’re gonna do snow angels, and I dove on the ground and everybody started diving with me so it was fun for sure.” Aaron Rodgers will love playing with Breece the Beast. “I’m happy that I get to get an offseason now where I could get better instead of just getting back to feeling normal,” Hall said..
