Sleaze ridden Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez took to the Senate floor Tuesday to again play innocent and flip off the many calls for his resignation . “The United States Attorney’s Office is engaged not in a prosecution, but a persecution,” he insisted in a 20 minute performance, holding back (crocodile) tears.
And: “There is no evidence of the giving or receiving of cash and gold bars.” Except of course for the actual gold bars and cash taken from his home, plus the fingerprints and serial numbers on them that show who had them last: Maybe they self teleported? With Democrats running the Justice Department, it’s inconceivable that federal prosecutors in Jersey would indict a sitting Democratic senator without ample evidence.
He’s charged with taking huge bribes, including in gold, to “fix” a court case, among other favors for three Garden State “businessmen.” (His wife allegedly got a new Mercedes in the bargain.) Oh, and with working as a foreign agent for Egypt, including executing requests from its military and intelligence officials.
Plus doing illicit favors for a Jersey developer and the Qatari royal family (whose gratitude came with more gold bars). His explanation for keeping half a million bucks in his home? It’s just a Cuban thing. “I will not step aside” — that is, do the right thing, and resign (or even stop sitting in on classified briefings) — Menendez trumpeted.
“I have never chosen the easy path — never have, never will, and will not do so now.” What a profile in courage. Better the Senate listen to Sen. John Fetterman (D Pa.): “I don’t know why this sleazeball is still here. You know, if they’ve expelled [George] Santos, how can we keep him around?”.
