Bihar Floods: Rahul Gandhi Appeals for Immediate Relief as Thousands Struggle

The swollen Ganga has once again breached its banks, leaving homes, shops and roads under water in large parts of Bihar. Pictures from Bhagalpur show water still lapping at doorsteps, a stark reminder that the disaster is far from over.

On Tuesday, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi took to X to share his sorrow. “The loss of lives due to the devastating floods in Bihar is extremely heartbreaking and soul‑wrenching,” he wrote, adding a heartfelt condolence to families who have lost loved ones. He paused, then appealed directly to Congress workers: lend a hand, distribute food, offer shelter, anything that can ease the suffering.

He didn’t stop at words. Gandhi urged the state and central administrations to act without delay – to roll out relief kits, mobilise rescue teams and get medical assistance to the flood‑hit villages as fast as possible. “The essential aid must reach the affected families as soon as we can,” his post read.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge echoed the sentiment. In his own X message he highlighted that about 49.67 lakh people across fifteen districts are grappling with the crisis. “Around 50 lakh people in 15 districts are affected; daily life has been disrupted in thousands of villages,” he said, stressing that the government’s priority should be unflinching relief, rescue, medical care and rehabilitation.

Kharge also called on every Congress worker to step forward, insisting that the nation stands with Bihar in this hour of need. The call to action was clear: reach out, provide help, and ensure that no family is left waiting.

According to the Disaster Management Department, the hardest‑hit districts include Patna, Bhojpur, Saran, Vaishali, Bhagalpur, Begusarai, Buxar, Samastipur, Munger, Katihar, Lakhisarai, Khagaria, Purnea, Madhepura and Araria. With nearly five million people affected, the scale of the emergency underscores the urgency of coordinated relief efforts.
