Listen to Story Australia, on Wednesday, January 10, named their squads for the upcoming Test and ODI series against the West Indies at home. All rounder Cameron Green has been confirmed to play the opening Test, starting Wednesday, January 17 at the Adelaide Oval. Green replaces David Warner, who recently played his at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Left handed batter Matt Renshaw also made his return to the squad, but there are doubts over his participation in the first Test. Steve Smith is most likely to open the batting alongside Usman Khawaja. Smith has batted from No.3 to No.9 in Test cricket, but has never walked out as an opener. "Cameron Green will come into the playing XI for the Test in Adelaide in a squad also containing Scott Boland and Matthew Renshaw.
We have selected a team we believe contains the best six batters in the country," George Bailey, Chair of Selectors, was quoted as saying. Smith will also lead the 13 member squad for the ODI series, which is scheduled to start on Friday, February 2 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. After the Tests and ODIs, Australia and the West Indies will also face each other in three T20I series in Hobart, Adelaide and Perth.
