‘Uncut Gems’ and ‘Good Time’ directors the Safdie Brothers are no long working together

"Benny Safdie, one half of the famed Safdie Brothers, has confirmed to Variety that he and his brother, Josh, have decided to part ways professionally. Referring to their decision as a "natural progression" based on individual artistic interests, Benny assured that their split was on friendly terms. The Safdie Brothers, renowned for their collaborative filmmaking endeavors, will now explore their artistic pursuits independently.

Benny Safdie expressed his eagerness to have the creative freedom to direct his own projects, as per his personal creative inclinations. He also disclosed that he had not been actively involved in the development of what was supposed to be the brothers' subsequent film after their hit, Uncut Gems. This film, also initially set to feature Adam Sandler like Uncut Gems, is reportedly on hold now.

Planned to be cast in the world of sports memorabilia, featuring Megan Thee Stallion alongside Sandler, the next Safdie Brothers' film may now see changes in its development plan. When posed with a question regarding a potential future collaboration with his brother, Benny responded with an uncertain, "I don't know."

The Safdie Brothers are famed for directing not just the critically acclaimed Uncut Gems with Adam Sandler, but also other notable films like Good Time featuring Robert Pattinson, and Heaven Knows What. Benny Safdie, following Uncut Gems, has ventured further into acting, with notable appearances in Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, Obi Wan Kenobi, and Licorice Pizza. His recent co-creation includes the comedy series The Curse, in which he also stars, with Nathan Fielder.

NME’s Alex Flood hailed Uncut Gems as a brilliant film in a five star rating, describing it as compelling, anxiety-provoking, and thrilling."
