AP Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been included in India’s T20I squad for the series against Afghanistan but the scenario was not quite the same for Mohammed Shami. India’s premier fast bowler was last seen in T20I cricket during the 2022 World Cup semi final against England in Adelaide. In Shami’s absence, the selectors explored some other fast bowling options like Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan and Mukesh Kumar.
With the T20 World Cup scheduled to take place later this year, Indian management was expected to work their way towards a set squad for the showpiece event but there still seems to be a lack of clarity. Shami, who was honoured with the prestigious Arjuna Award , pointed it out recently. Shami stated that an impressive show in the Indian Premier League (IPL) can get him back on the international side.

But what I feel is that you have IPL before the T20 World Cup and that is the best opportunity to bring in momentum, and if management will ask me to play, I’ll be available,” Shami told India Today .
Shami was in sublime form for India at the ODI World Cup. With 24 scalps, Shami emerged as the highest wicket taker in the competition. Following the completion of the World Cup, the Indian cricket team featured in two T20I series against Australia and South Africa but Shami did not feature in any of those.
The 33 year old is currently aiming to be selected for the Test series against England. However, the seamer is recovering from an ankle injury that could see him miss two Tests against England . “I am trying best to be available for the selection for England The series test match is longer format so you don’t want to be in doubt,” Shami added.
