'90210' star Ian Ziering thankful to be alive after 'alarming' biker attack

Ian Ziering has spoken out after he was allegedly attacked in an “alarming incident” on New Year’s Eve by a group of bikers in Los Angeles. In video obtained by TMZ , the former Beverly Hills, 90210 star was seen being viciously assaulted on Sunday by four helmeted assailants who were cruising down Hollywood Blvd.

on motorized mini bikes with the fracas beginning after one of them “aggressively” approached the actor’s car. According to the outlet, Ziering, 59, was “wailing” on one of the bikers before their friends piled on and began to “whoop on him mercilessly.” As they exchanged punches and kicks, one attacker was seen using their helmet as a weapon as they chased the Sharknado star across the busy street while onlookers stood on in disbelief.

Ziering spoke out on the daylight attack in an Instagram post set to Coldplay’s A Sky Full of Stars , telling followers that the altercation began after he tried to “assess” damage to his car. ”Yesterday, I experienced an alarming incident involving a group of individuals on mini bikes,” his post began.

“While stuck in traffic, my car was approached aggressively by one of these riders leading to an unsettling confrontation. In an attempt to assess any damage I exited my car. This action, unfortunately, escalated into a physical altercation, which I navigated to protect myself.” The actor went on to hit out at “hooliganism” in the streets of L.A.

and the response from police, calling their approach “insufficient.” The incident, which saw no bystander attempt to get involved, left him “deeply concerned about the growing boldness of such groups who disrupt public safety and peace.” “This situation highlights a larger issue of hooliganism on our streets and the need for effective law enforcement responses to such behaviour,” Ziering continued.

“As a citizen and a parent, I find it unacceptable that groups can freely engage in this kind of behaviour, causing fear and chaos, while the response from authorities seems insufficient.” Adding that he wants to “ensure that our streets are safe for everyone,” Ziering used his platform to urge city officials to take “decisive action against such lawlessness.” “I have always been an advocate for standing up against intimidation and misconduct, and this incident reinforces my belief in the importance of personal and community safety,” he wrote.

“We must address the underlying issues that lead to such disruptive behaviour.” Ziering concluded his message by thanking his loved ones and wishing his followers all the best for 2024. “I am thankful for the support of my family, friends, and fans during this time. It’s in challenging moments like these that the strength and unity of our community are most vital.

Happy new year.” TMZ later shared video of Ziering comforting his crying daughter, Penna, after the incident. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to KTLA that officers responded to an altercation at Hollywood Blvd and Highland Ave. on Sunday afternoon following “reports of a fight that broke out after the group of bikers were driving recklessly.” Ziering is listed as a victim in a police report.

“The mini motorcycle riders were driving recklessly and struck the victim’s vehicle and an altercation occurred,” LAPD media spokesperson Lt. Letisia Ruiz told USA Today in a follow up response. As video of the brawl went viral, Ziering’s ex wife Erin, who he also shares daughter Mia with, pleaded for privacy on her Instagram Story and told people messaging her to “reach out to the direct people involved.” A source later told DailyMail.com that Ziering is “doing OK” following the fight.
